Good morning, guys! A little update I LOVE snowboarding. I’m going to try to go every Saturday of this season, then I’m going to ask for snowboarding gear for my birthday. Today’s topic is a topic that’s really hasn’t sat well with me for a long time now and that’s labeling oneself. I’m talking like making it one’s entire personality. Whether you’re gay, bi, straight, all of the different sexualities, disorders, astrology sign etc. No one is secure with their own identity anymore they need to rely on labels to know who they are. I think it all stems from social media and scrolling past different people. From the creator viewpoint, you’re having multiple different people view your post, so one thinks it’s necessary to give a brief synopsis of themselves. Since multiple strangers are seeing your post, you want likeminded people to like your feed, so you gain followers. This has gone too far and now people bring up their “labels” at every chance they get. The one that recently got to me though was “side quest”. Multiple people on my TikTok feed were saying how for their new year’s resolutions they want to go on more “side quests”. When this first came out I thought it was funny because it’s in reference to a video game side quest, but then people started bringing it to everyday life and that’s where it just annoyed me. It’s just called doing new things. Is life so boring you have to label it with a video game term? It’s called adventuring. It’s called living life and doing things. Social media has ruined our society. It has ruined our attention spans, our joy for the little things, because were ALWAYS being feed some bullshit, and our sense of self. The constant comparison is sending people into spirals of depression and anxiety.
Just live in the moment, be happy with yourself, and just BE yourself. You don’t need to label yourself and live in this square you built around yourself. You don’t have to be one thing or the other just be.
Love you guys, Lin
